Ian Vickers will represent New Zealand at the 2015 IOM World Championships. Ian has been a consistent top 10 finisher in other World Championships that he has attended. Ian has won the NZ IOM championships several times, the 2013 USA Nationals, and is widely recognised as our best sailor. These achievements are especially impressive considering that he designs and builds his own boats.
NZ sailors (and many international sailors) will be familiar with at least one or two of Ian’s popular V2, V3, V5, V6, V7, V8 and V9 designs. Some of you may remember all of them. At one Tauranga event I recall 4 of his designs competing (V3, V5, V6, V7). The V8 was the first of Ian’s new generation (chine/tumblehome) designs. With this boat he notably won the 2013 US nationals competing with world class sailors and boats. Prior to this event, Ian was interviewed for the Seattle IOM Update. Well worth a read!
Ian will be sailing his very competitive V9 design for the IOM Worlds. Ian is fresh from winning the 2015 North Island Championships with this boat, and should be confident in its performance.
You’ll find Ian’s official IOM Worlds Biography on the biographies page
We wish you good sailing Ian, and will follow your results with interest.
