Challenge series leg 5 Report below in pdf
Marblehead Challenge Series
Wattle farm Saturday 21st June
Leg 5 of 6
Saturdays fleet for the running of the 5th leg of the current
challenge series was a little down on numbers from previous fleets
with 10 yachts and skippers making the start line but never less, it
was an extremely high quality field.
An upper A rig northwesterly breeze was forecast for the day but
the mornings sailing was a bit light and fickle in direction but built
and settled into a more constant direction in the afternoon.
It was great to see another new competitor join into the
competition, Graham Clough sailing the ex Tony O Paradox.
Despite being his first outing with a swing-rigged yacht, Graham
sailed extremely well to place well all day and win a race as well.
Bill Anderson continues to sail consistently, Richard Nicholas won
several races with his Prime Number but again Grant Lane
continued to show his class in taking out a number of the races
and winning the day with his Dibley Rockstar RM.
This yacht perhaps looked a little sticky in the light but once the
breeze kicked in to upper A rig range, Grant was powering away
for well-earned wins. Well done Grant.
Again it must be said that the whole Marblehead fleet is so even
and that is making for some great racing with practically every
yacht entering having the ability to win races regardless of design
Many thanks to RO, Roy Granich and the other helpers for
providing their time to help run the day. So its all on now for the
final race regatta in his series and should make for a great finale.
