2013 RM Nationals at Lake Rotoroa, Hamilton
Firstly my personal apologies for the late change in venue due to the weed at Wattle Farm, it will not happen again.
Congratulations to Rob Nelson 1st (first competitive sail in an RM),
Grant Lane 2nd
and Nigel Clements 3rd.
To Rob good luck in the RG65 Nationals and at Wellington.
The Trophy for the most deserving newcomer went to Bill Anderson.
As others have commented, the standard of boats and sailing this year has risen considerably
To all the other competitors I guess your normally placid natures were tested at times by sailors like me squeezing in on marks, coming into the start on port, for not remembering left from right, for not sailing a proper course and for having issues on the water.
Special thanks to the race officer Roy Granich (I think he can quote the rule book chapter and verse) and his band of helpers Neil Wood, Peter Pollard, John Wall, Sharon Edge and the indomitable Mr Smith who spent most of the day in the dinghy, (fishing lol ), we must never take these people for granted.
I for one enjoyed myself although like all sailors I imagine, thought I should have done better but that is sailing and if you want to get to the top take a leaf out of Robs book and practice, you do not have to win simply be consistent.
There are 2 more regattas this year, the Sears Rosebowl at Hamilton on the 8th of Dec and the RM Challenge the following week also at Hamilton.
I will be there, till then enjoy your sailing .
Results thanks to RO Roy G
