Report from Nigel
Waikato Radio Yacht Club
6hr Endurance Charity Event
Think Head Injury Network
Well, it shows true enthusiasm for RC yachting and a worthy cause when for most of the preceding week, the Weekends weather forecast was for it to be absolutely bucketing down…. And the forecast proved to be quite correct.
However 16 hardy soles forming into 8 x 2man teams showed up and braved the wet conditions to support our annual charity event. The breeze was forecast from the Northeast that provides swirling conditions across our course.
At the start gun, the breeze was extremely light and for the first hour and a half the fleet remained very tight. You could just about cover the pack with a blanket. But the forecasted 8- 11kph breeze came and the fleet began to spread.
Rob and Tessa (27) were having a great tussle with Dave and Steve (77), the lead changing several times With Carl and Linton not far away in third.
Rob And Tessa prevailed in the end for a come from behind win over Dave and Steve to take out the overall and mixed team titles.
A total of 45 laps completed the race….a total I think no one would have thought we would have got to at the beginning.
A predrilled IOM mast was Kindly Provided by event sponsor, Evolution RC Yachts and Ken Fox donating a very nice hand made wooden dinner tray with both items being raffled with proceeds going to the charity.
Linton Little and Mark Jenkins won the raffles respectively.
Many thanks to all the competitors, some who travelled large distances, and who made the effort to support the event and the Charity cause despite the less than ideal conditions.
The event raised $202.00 with all going to the :THINK HEAD INJURY NETWORK FOR KIWIS .
