Sunday 8th July Sailing

Sundays Sailing in Hamilton dawned on a brisk Frosty Waikato morning. Despite the Chilly start, the days sailing started into glorious sunshine with a Southerly breeze providing light to mid “A” rig conditions.

A field of 7 Marblehead’s and 6 IOM’s line up to race over a mixture of a long course whilst the breeze was in then back to a shortened course when the breeze dropped causing a somewhat slowing in boat speed and the occasional grunt of “Time for lunch ay “ .

Carl Smith Travelled over from Tauranga with the latest offering out of the Dibley DM stable. His own Marblehead, which was fresh off the production line and in its first competition outing.

Despite Carl having little experience with RMs the DM showed its pedigree with consistent top 4 placing’s. A beautifully finished boat that looks like 40 knots on the boat stand !

Mr. Consistent, Graham Bowen took out the day’s honors sailing his swing rig Bantock designed RM with a skilled display of sailing in the shifty breezes. Well-done Graham.

The IOM racing was close amongst the competitors with Mark Jenkins showing the way through the many ‘holes’ across the course.
Ken Foster, Wayne Cairns, Ian Davis, Tony Parker and Ian Petty, all sailing recently purchased boats are showing improvement with every outing and with continued practice, have every chance of being amongst the leaders.

This coming Sunday 15th July is our IOM competition day and members from all clubs are welcome to come and join in on another fun days sailing. Sailing from 10.30 am. See you there.
