Our refurbished Lake Victoria opens on the 17th of June.
We are all looking foward to being back on our ‘home’ lake.
We have had contact with a small group based in Dunedin who have expressed interest in a weekend trip up here.
If there is good interest the club could hold ‘The South Island IOM Champs’ at a time that works for as many as possible???
Thanks again for your clubs positive example and great web presence.
Cheers
Bruce

The EHCIS handicap system again shows how it can recognise those that perform well on the day.
Lindsay sailed well all day and deserved his win on line, still both Ron Paterson and even more so Ross Morton sailed above their ranking, and were rewarded with first and second on handicap.
A review of the handicap results also shows, three guys, Barry Matthews, Dan Leahy and Greg Paul, traditional combatants, all having an average Regatta, and finishing 10th, 11th and 12th on handicap.
Not a bad indication the EHCIS is working.

Waikato IOM Champs Report

Waikato IOM Championships
The weekend forecast for our inaugural IOM Club Champs was not looking very flash a couple of days out from the kick off on Saturday morning.
However on the day the Sunshine poked through and the event commenced with a field of 17 skippers and they all were duly rewarded with a crisp and fine Autumns Day.
Sailing conditions varied across the spectrum from morning conditions being very light and flat then building as the day progressed to strong gusting Westerly’s at top of A rig .
Sailing as a single fleet, the first few races saw a packed leading bunch converging on the first mark and the unmistakable sound of “clangs” revealing any boats touching the marks with visiting skippers soon realising that those bouys really are metal !
Races were over two laps of the course and many skippers found dealing with the pressure waves ( Jobble ) around our car park bouy and back to the finish a whole new experience.
The racing produced varied finishes but most races producing close finishes among the leading boats.
Graham Cross leads the field at the end of the first day:

On the second day we decided to shift the racing to the far side of the lake to the Sailing clubs facilities as the weather predictions were for heavy rain building as the day progressed.
The day started to overcast but clear conditions and an ideal steady mid A rig Northwest breeze across the course.
Once again the racing was close with Graham Cross having to work hard to hold off the mounting challenge being thrown by Rob Nelson with Karl Stachel and Graham Roberts also right in the mix at the completion of most races.
8 further races were run on Sunday before rain caused an early finish to the racing.
Rob Nelson was unable to hold out Graham Cross who with a very consistent display of sailing over the whole weekend, piped Rob for the overall honors.
Congratulations to Graham for taking out the event and also to all the competitors who travelled to support our event and added to atmosphere
and competitive spirit that made for a great regatta.

Waikato Match Racing 29/04 /12
Waikato Radio Yacht Club
Match racing Report 29/04 /12
Sunday the 29th saw the running of our Bi Monthly Marblehead Match Racing Regatta.
With a dodgy weather forecast and the morning producing overcast conditions things looked like a full days racing was going to be a tall order.
However the weather Gods again smiled on our course and the rain stayed at bay with the start of fleet racing producing light breezes and shifting conditions across the course.
Neil Wood set a good course with good beats to into the wind to keep all competitors honest.
In the afternoon we started our match racing series into a steadily
strengthening northwestly at top of A rig and sometimes bordering on B rig.
A fleet of 7 boats made up the Match Racing section and despite the modest numbers entered it produced some close racing with varied results. Our new members Tony and Ian are settling in to their racing and are showing more speed and ability at every race meeting with constant improvement in their results and Gordon West showed a good turn of speed as the wind strengthened.
Murray Fitness despite only having a B rig, produced a fine display of racing.
The end of racing saw Neil Woods and Terry Coll tied for first place with a resulting sail off to determine the title.
The resulting sail off for first saw both skippers charging the line hard with Neil being over the line on the gun. This saw Terry sailing clear but Neil was not to be out done and sailed hard around the course continually reeling Terry in, but Terrys’ lead was just a bit too great and he ended up taking the event by only a few boat lengths from Neil.
Well done to all competitors for a great day of close racing and congratulations to Terry for taking the Match Racing Event out.
Results as follows:
1st .TerryColl
2nd.NeilWood.
3rd.Murray Fitness.
4th equal. Tony Parker and Sharon Edge.
6th.Ian
7th.GordonWest.
